Fall TV Preview

Well, after a relatively slow summer of TV, I’m getting excited for the new Fall Shows.  I was extremely disappointed at most TV sites’ coverage which only included the major networks. TV is shifting quickly to cable, and the internet ain’t moving with it so fast.  It was tough to track down all the non-network gems. And I’ll tell you, SyFy sure makes it extra hard to track down their coming season, so I hope i didn’t miss any here. Here’s my take for now:

The Old Favorites

Mondays: How I Met Your Mother, Chuck
Tuesdays: NCIS, Glee (I keep giving JC McNamara the benefit of the doubt, but this one’s spotty), Will these guys syrvive the move from Fryday: Stargate Universe, Caprica (Oct 5), Sons Of Anarchy (10pm FX)
Wednesday: Modern Family
Thursday: Community, 30 Rock, The Office, Fringe
Friday:  Sanctuary (Oct 15 – What else will be on the standard Fryday Nyght Syfy? I couldn’t tell.)
Saturday: Zippie!
Sunday: The Amazing Race, The Simpsons (Is this thing still on?), Eastbound & Down,  Bored to Death (Yes, it is)

The Newbie Contenders

Hawaii Five-0: You can’t go wrong with Battlestar’s Grace Park, LOST’s Daniel Dae Kim along side of Scott Caan.  I’m putting my money where my mouth is on this one, hoping this will be a fun ride, like Chuck, but I’m not expecting Shakespeare.

Outsourced: Surprisingly enjoyed this indy movie, and am looking forward to see the Thursday night “Must See TV” version.

Boardwalk Empire: HBO should be bringing us another solid drama. Enough said.

The Walking Dead: AMC is back! Zombies vs. Cowboy Sheriff?? How can you go wrong!

Questionable Newbies

The Event – Lots of hype, but will this going out in smoke like FlashForward?  Without any other info than the cryptic promos, I give this one 50% chance of survival past the first season.

No Ordinary Family – This could be a surprise hit, but not sure i’d bet the house on it. You’d need Ed O’Neil paired with a busty Latina to pull of that kind of surprise.

Blue Bloods : You can’t go wrong with Magnum P.I.  Or can you? He’s finally got the moustache back, so I’ll throw a few fazoules down on this one.

Lone Star: Maybe. this got a few good reviews. we will see.

Undercovers: Not sure JJ Abrams’ name alone can save this one, but i’m willing to give it a shot.

Hellcats: I wish I had time to watch all the terribly awesome teen soap dramas, such as Gossip Girl, 90210, Melrose, etc.  I doubt I’ll get around to watching this one, but maybe if we could watch it over the weekend with a Drinking Game.

The New Losers

Prove me wrong, oh magical TV toob: Chase, Mike & Molly, Detroit 1-8-7, Raising Hope, Running Wilde, Better With You , The Whole Truth, Law & Order: Los Angeles, Secret Millionaire, Body of Proof, Outlaw,

  1. Man, how could i forget Fringe. This show had a slow start, but a great First Season Finale, followed by a very solid second season (and Finale) focused more on growing the overall mythology than the random X-files. (I added Fringe in above.)
